Dean Wilder Monogram

Creating a personal monogram can be one of the most challenging assignments for any designer. Being so close to a project can sometimes make it hard to see clearly, leading either to tunnel vision or a flood of possible directions. After almost five years of on-and-off effort, I’m excited to finally share my personal “DW” monogram.

This mark came to life thanks to a rediscovered sketch from July 2016. I’d gone through countless thumbnails in different sketchbooks, exploring endless variations, but somehow this quick, continuous line sketch had slipped by unnoticed. When I came back to it, though, everything just clicked.

The final design combines the thick lines of the "W" with a central loop that forms the "D," all fitting together within a rounded shape. The result is a bold, graphic mark that’s both distinct and highly adaptable, working seamlessly across various formats and surfaces.

It’s one of those designs that feels so simple, it almost seems like it should’ve been obvious. But it took a lot of experimenting and waiting for the right combination to come together.
